CNews has an article on being careful when you buy recordable DVDs. You may be paying for a Memorex DVDr, but you may not be getting a Memorex disc.

“Imagine a DVD of the latest Star Wars movie shows up at a flea market – new in a full retail package. The movie hasn’t even been on the big screen for more than a week. Your “spidey sense” tells you immediately that there is something wrong with this picture. It’s a fake, a counterfeit- guaranteed. Now if you walked into a local store and you saw a retail box of Maxell Blank Recordable CDs or DVDs, it would never cross your mind that these too may not be the real thing.”
